Employers have been honoured for their commitment to workplace health and wellbeing.

Businesses from across Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle attended the North East Better Health at Work Awards (BHAWA), hosted by BBC Radio Newcastle presenter Anna Foster with a keynote speech from Beth Farhat, regional secretary for the Northern Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The annual ceremony – jointly hosted by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle City Council – celebrates the collective achievements of employers participating in the Better Health at Work Award.

Coun Margaret Hall, cabinet member for public health andwellbeing at North Tyneside Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many of our local businesses being acknowledged with a Better Health at Work Award. This award is an important recognition of their efforts, as well as an incentive for others to make the same commitment.”

Beth said: “It’s always an absolute pleasure to be part of these celebrations and recognise the hard work, effort and innovation that Better Health at Work Award participants demonstrate and deliver for their staff and workplaces year on year.”

Gordon Brown Law Firm LLP, which has been participating in the BHAWA since 2014, was the premium sponsor of the event.

Wendy Peffers, marketing manager, said: “We have now reached the third year and have achieved our Gold award.”
