Thousands of pounds has been raised for charity thanks to a bag appeal.
Nearly 150 bags were donated to British Heart Foundation (BHF) shops as part of the charity’s ‘Bag It. Beat It.’ campaign event held at the Royal Quays Shopping Centre in North Shields.
The donated items will now go be sold in local BHF shops and could generate up to £2,600 to help fund life-saving research.
BHF shop’s campaign urged the public to donate bags of unwanted items, with every bag donated helping raising funds for life-saving heart research.
Nigel Bullock, BHF area manager, said: “It’s great to see such an amazing number of bags collected from the event.
“The BHF currently funds over £14m into congenital heart disease research but this year we need to raise even more.
“The North Shields community has done fantastically well and I would like to say a big thank you to those who helped reach this amazing total.
“There’s still time to join Bag It. Beat It. If you weren’t able to take part in our event you can fill a bag with good quality unwanted clothes, shoes, toys, books, CDs, DVDs and homewares and donate the items to your local BHF shop. Join us and help the BHF in the fight against heart disease.”
