Ballet dancer Phillipa thanks rotary club for its support

A YOUNG ballet dancer is a step nearer her dream thanks to sponsorship from a local group.

The Rotary Club of Monkseaton Centenary sponsored 12-year-old Phillipa Jobson, from Moffat Close, North Shields, to attend a summer course at the English National Ballet School in London.

Phillipa returned to the club to tell them about her time at the school last week.

The support of the rotary club enabled Monkseaton Middle School pupil Phillipa to join other students from around the world in a week-long intensive course in Kensington, London.

Phillipa said: “I am very grateful that the club made it possible for me to take one small step towards realising my dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer.”

Rotary club president-elect Jim Coulthard said: “This young lady shows great dedication to dancing and I am so pleased that the club was able to help her in this way.

“I was particularly impressed by the demonstration of pointes.”
