Bay top table off the pitch in secret shopper campaign

Whitley Bay Football CVlub have excelled in the Northern League Secret Shopper campaign by coming top of the table.

The campaign was launched to combat the issues of offensive language and inappropriate behaviour, and ‘secret shoppers’ have reported on standards of behaviour at Northern League games throughout the 2012/13 season.

Monitors attended games unannounced and Whitley gained top marks with Team Northumbria second and Alnwick Town third,.

Credit went to the players, management team, and Whitley’s fans, whose behaviour was also monitored.

In addition, Whitley received a supply of footballs at the League’s annual General Meeting on Saturday.

League Chairman Mike Amos said: “The success of Secret Shopper hasn’t just been in pinpointing areas of concern, though it’s that which gets the headlines, but highlighting those clubs which consistently achieve high standards of behaviour and discipline. Whitley Bay have been in the top three all season, and that’s not accidental. It’s a reflection of a club with a deserved reputation for doing things properly in every way, both on and off the field.”
