Borough community groups benefit from grants

SMALL community groups in the borough are benefiting thanks to a grant awarded to Age UK.

The Community Development Grant Programme is sponsored by Age UK North Tyneside and provides a fund of £5,000 to support to develop grassroots voluntary community groups.

Age UK North Tyneside has provided a grant fund to help people aged 50 and over living in North Tyneside over the past few years, however this is the first year for this grassroots grant fund.

The first round was opened in November for community organisations to apply and we received an overwhelming response to the fund.

A total of 45 small grants were awarded to a variety of organisations across the whole of North Tyneside, including £150 for Phoenix Walking Club in North Shields, towards marketing to attract new members, and £155 for Stanton Lodge Nursing and Neurodisability Home in Whitley Bay, to buy a huge ‘Connect Four’ which supports a physical and wellbeing activity programme.
