A nine-year-old boy is recovering in hospital this morning after falling into a stream in Wallsend and suffering a serious head injury.
A passer-by near Wallsend Dene contacted the emergency services to report a child had fallen into the stream and was injured at 6.35pm on Tuesday April 23.
Police attended and found the boy in the stream near to the subway under the coast road, he had been with a friend, another boy at the time.
He was in the stream at the bottom of a steep bank suffering from head injuries and the fire service were called to assist to get him to safety.
The youngster was airlifted to the RVI where he is receiving treatment for a serious head injury.
