A father got snappy on his daughter’s big day and ended up winning shoes for a year.

Brian Kerr, 62, posed for a picture with his newly-wed daughter Helen and entered it in the Charles Clinkard Walks of Life competition.

Customers were invited to take a snap of their feet in a pair of the retailer’s shoes and upload it to the competition website.

And Brian proudly displayed his new sandals in front of St Mary’s Lighthouse in Whitley Bay.

Brian said: “Winning the competition was a wonderful surprise.

“It’s a photo full of happiness and a photo I love so I’m glad the judges picked it and so many people will get to see it.”

Brian bought a pair of weatherproof sandals – and found they came in very useful after the wedding.

“I was mighty glad I took them along,” said Brian.

“The wedding was fantastic but as we were leaving the lighthouse it started lashing it down and the tide was coming in quicker than anticipated.

“We’d booked an old-fashioned bus to come and pick us up but it couldn’t make it across the causeway – so I put on my sandals and made a dash for it.”

Managing director Charles Clinkard said: “Brian’s picture is an excellent photo with a great story behind it and is just one of the many fantastic entries we’ve received since the competition launched earlier this year.

“Congratulations to Brian on winning and of course to the newly-married couple, Helen and Ben.”
