A North Tyneside factory has been praised for its commitment to staff development.

CMR UK’s plant at Silverlink in North Shields was highly commended at this year’s EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards in London for nurturing its workers’ talents.

That plaudit follows CMR landing a goldprize at a similar event in the north east last year.

The company – a supplier of instruments and controls for offshore platforms and vessels, marine facilities, engines and industrial applications – employs 80 staff at its New York Way factory.

Maureen Jamieson, its finance director, said: “This is a tremendous achievement that not only demonstrates our commitment to investing in people but also reinforces our reputation as an innovative company.”

Human resources adviser Donna Warwick added: “We haven’t rested on our laurels and continue to work on our learning and development strategy to upskill the workforce for maximum benefit to the team and the company.”
