A charity supporting victims of sexual violence is hoping its latest fundraising campaign will help make a change.
Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland is hoping members of the public will donate their change, in the form of a £1 coin.
The ‘Just £1’ campaign is hoping to make a huge difference through the small change.
Chief executive Sue Pearce said: “Here at Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland we do two things: actively campaign to end sexual violence whilst also providing support to those who, sadly, have been through it.
“One in four women will experience sexual violence at some point in their lives.
“Our Just £1 campaign asks people to come together as a community and help us support those women.”
The campaign is the first time in the charity’s 36 year history that they have appealed for public support in this way.
Sue added: “As many of my colleagues in the charity sector will be all too aware, securing funding gets increasingly harder. In order to be able to keep offering the support we do for women here.”
A donation of £1 will contribute to the provision of one-to-one counselling, sustain the vital work done by the telephone helpline and the charity’s overall support for survivors of sexual violence.
The public can donate, Just £1 by texting RCTN99 £1 to 70070.
