Patients at a borough hospital will be able to enjoy some home comforts during their stay, thanks to the latest donation from a Whitley Bay based charity.

Umbrella charity Angels of the North will supply £10,000 worth of patient care packs to 20 north east hospitals, including North Tyneside General Hospital, over the next year.

The packs contain essentials such as soap, shower gel, showercap, shampoo, toothbrush, f ace cloth and more.

Charity officials said they were pleased to help parents of children rushed to hospital so they did not have to worry about items in the pack.

Critical Care Senior Sister Susan Johnson said: “The patient care packs allow patients to keep their independence.

“The packs also help to maintain the patient’s dignity as well as hygiene.”

Angels chairman Hari Shukla said: “Not only do the packs help with infection control but they are individual to each patient because they come in a waterproof, re-sealable, transparent bag, so that once items have been used they can be sealed back inside the bag.

“This way they patient knows what they are getting is theirs and has not been used by another patient.”
