The foodbank supplies more than 1,000 emergency food parcels per week to those in need. The grant will be used to fund general overheads and part-time administration support to help the charity to run efficiently.

Rev Alan Dickinson, chairman at The BAY Foodbank, said: “We’d like to express our sincere thanks for this very generous donation from the Santander Foundation.

“It will help to make a big difference to our work.”

Michael Johnston, manager at Santander’s North Shields branch, said: “Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community. We are delighted to be supporting The BAY Foodbank and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
