Cash stolen in armed robbery

Staff were threatened by an armed robber during a raid on a store.

A man armed with a knife went into the Simply Food and Drink in North Road, Wallsend, at around 3pm on Sunday, December 21, and threatened a staff member.

The robber made off with money and cigarettes.

The staff member was not injured but was left shaken.

The offender is described as white, slim build, possibly around 6ft tall. He was wearing a shiny black coat with a hood that he was wearing up, black baggy trousers – possibly tracksuit bottoms – and black shoes.

It is believed another man may have been waiting outside the store for the offender who was wearing a grey tracksuit and a high visibility waistcoat.

A man previously arrested has been released with no further police action.
