A borough business is in line for additional funding to help create more jobs.
Procter & Gamble Technical Centres Ltd is one of three businesses in the north east to be given a conditional offer from the Regional Growth Fund (RGF).
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg announced an extra £21.9m was being made available to help companies in the region to flourish.
Since the fund was launched in 2010, more than £320m has been invested in 94 north east projects, helping create or safeguard 84,000 local jobs and attract £2.1bn of further investment from the private sector.
Mr Clegg said: “A stronger economy means providing equal opportunity for everyone across the UK, rather than solely relying on the City of London to bolster business.
“The success of the RGF is proof that putting money in the hands of local businesses helps them flourish, and creates opportunities for more people to work locally.”
Universities, Science and Cities Minister Greg Clark added: “This round of RGF investments will help local firms fulfil their ambitions for growth, encourage businesses to set up bases in the UK and boost jobs and prosperity.”
