A 12 WEEK old baby escaped with minor injuries when a ceiling collapsed in a Wallsend flat.

The living room ceiling of an upstairs terraced flat collapsed on Wednesday night, landing on the youngster.

She was taken out of the flat before the emergency services arrived, but paramedics and firefighters treat her to remove soot and plaster from her nose and mouth.

The baby and both parents, who were in the flat in Chatton Street in East Howdon at 10.20pm, were taken to North Tyneside General Hospital as a precaution.
