A special party was held to celebrate a resident’s significant milestone.

Staff and residents at Princess Court nursing home, in Hedley Road, Royal Quays, North Shields, were joined by friends and relatives of Kathleen Drummond to help celebrate her 100th birthday.

Born in Essex, Kathleen helped deliver hundreds of babies while working as a midwife in the east end of London during the 1950s.

She married Reg and the pair lived in Surrey before moving north. Kathleen lived in Whitley Bay until last year, able to look after herself until the age of 99.

She said the secret to a long life was ‘hard work’.

As well as a birthday card from the Queen, Kathleen enjoyed a party at the home.
