Work has started on the makeover of a popular cafe.

Officials at the Linskill Centre, in North Shields, say the new-look café will provide better kitchen facilities, an extended seating area and a greater choice on the menu.

The café serves a wide range of snacks and hot meals from Monday to Saturday and also benefits from a sun-filled garden where customers can sit and enjoy food from the café.

Linskill catering supervisor, Stephen Lenahan, said: “The Linskill Centre continues to be at the heart of the local community and is used by thousands of people every year.

“As the popularity of the centre continues to grow, we want to upgrade our catering facilities to create an exceptional new café facility that will enable us to provide the highest standard of catering for the future.”

The redevelopment is part funded by a secured grant through Power to Change and a loan from The Key Fund.

Refurbishment work is expected to be completed by mid-December.
