Two shopping centres are teaming up to bring ‘Funtastic Fridays’ to the borough.

The Beacon shopping centre, in North Shields, and The Forum shopping centre, in Wallsend, will be hosting events every Friday.

The summer events kicks off on Friday, July 31, with face painting at the Beacon from 10am to 1pm, and from 2pm to 5pm at the Forum.

There will also be a Facebook competition for the most creative face design.

Other activities over the five weeks include a Circus Skills Workshop on Friday, August 7, where children will be able to learn to juggle and perform other circus tricks, as well as a balloon modelling session for children to create a variety of colourful balloon creatures under the guidance of an entertainer.

It will take place at the Beacon from 2pm to 5pm, and at the Forum from 10am to 1pm.

Future planned activities include balloon modelling, arts and crafts workshop in collaboration with YMCA North Shields, and a sea-themed cookie decorating in collaboration with Blue Reef Aquarium and Poundland.

Nick Lambert, The Forum centre manager, said: “We understand that keeping the kids entertained during the holidays can be difficult, so we are really excited to launch Funtastic Fridays for our community to enjoy.

“These are great events for the whole family and, what’s more, are free of charge.”

Dave Menzies, The Beacon centre manager, added: “We are really looking forward to Funtastic Fridays.

“The family focused events will be a great way for parents, grandparents or childminders to keep the little ones happy while shopping at The Beacon over the Summer Holidays.”
