WHITLEY Bay Football Club were presented with the freedom of the borough on Tuesday in recognition of their FA Vase success.
Manager Ian Chandler, along with club chairman Paul McIlduff and other officials, plus players past and present attended the ceremony at North Tyneside Council’s headquarters in North Shields.
The honorary award was given to the club following their victories at Wembley in 2009, 2010 and 2011 in the competition, as well as their 2004 triumph at Villa Park.
Ian said: “It’s great that the council have recognised the achievement, and we hope we can make the town proud of us this year as well.”
The club also presented the council with a signed and framed Whitley Bay shirt.
Whitley Bay Football Club begin this season’s FA Vase campaign on Saturday at Hillheads against Tadcaster Albion, kicking off at 3pm.
