NORTH Tyneside businesses across the region are being urged to enter the North East England Tourism Awards.
The awards, being supported by Northeast Press, publisher of the News Guardian, have been held every year since 2003 to recognise the hard work and dedication of those working in the tourism industry across the region.
In light of current economic challenges facing the industry, there were some doubts as to whether the awards would go ahead in 2012, but they are.
Sarah Stewart, chief executive at the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “After speaking with local businesses, it quickly became apparent to us that the enthusiasm from the tourism industry locally for the awards meant that they simply must go ahead.”
The NewcastleGateshead Initiative is planning and staging the awards in partnership with Northumberland County Council and event management company Evention.
Winners at the awards will have the chance to compete against winners from other regions across the country at the Visit England Awards for Excellence.
