PEOPLE can raise a glass tomorrow to naval hero Cuthbert Collingwood at the North Tyneside monument built in his honour.
The toast is being held at the Tynemouth monument to mark Trafalgar Day.
The event has been organised by North Tyneside Council in honour of Collingwood’s role in directing the British fleet to victory at the 1805 battle against the French and Spanish as his commanding officer, Horatio Nelson, lay mortally wounded.
More than 100 people are expected to attend, including North Tyneside mayor Linda Arkley.
Mrs Arkley said: “North Tyneside is proud of Lord Collingwood and the annual toast to the admiral ensures his achievements will not be forgotten.”
Proceedings will start at 11.40am and will include a short address by Stephen Healy.
The toast will be held at noon.
