A church has helped raise nearly £1,000 for three local charities.

Members of St Andrew’s United Reformed Church in Monkseaton raised a total of £945, which was split between Cullercoats RNLI Lifeboat, Alzheimer’s Society and St Oswald’s Hospice.

Each year the church lists a number of charities which is then shortlisted to three ‘finalists’ by way of vote by members of the church.

Ann Hammond, assistant church secretary, said: “We were all pleased to support the RNLI and especially one of our local stations.

“Our members have worked hard throughout the year running events including, film club, table top sales and regular concerts among just some of the events.”

A spokesperson for the station said: “We feel exceptionally grateful for this generous donation and can be rest assured the money will be put to great use.”
