Charity box stolen in distraction theft

A charity box has been stolen in a distraction theft.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft, which happened in Learning Disability North East, Park Road, Wallsend at around 11.40am on Friday, May 27.

A man entered the main foyer of the building claiming to be interested in learning about the charity.

He distracted staff and then grabbed the charity collection box and made off, stealing an amount of cash.

The offender is described as a white man, aged 40s to 50s, 5ft 8ins tall, slim build, with fair shaven hair and a local accent.

He was wearing an old style England top, and royal blue coloured bottoms.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and anyone who may recognise the man from the description, or anyone with information is asked to contact police.
