A charity has sailed off with hundreds of pounds thanks to the generosity of a local club and residents.

Tynemouth Model Boat Club, based at Tynemouth Park, raised £800 for Macmillan Trust with an open day earlier this year.

Hundreds attended the event in September, which saw competitions, races, a book stall and more, with club members putting a range of the model boats on display.

Richard Cox, club secretary, said: “The day was successful beyond all our hopes.

“We had a stream of visitors all day long. The visitors were very generous with their donations.

“The club wants to dedicate the donation to Alan Walker and Roy Marston, who were both club members who passed away during this year.

“The club wishes to thank everybody involved and all the visitors.”
