Charity sees garden bloom thanks to staff

Supermarket staff are helping a local charity have a blooming good time.

Staff at the Sainsbury’s store in Newsteads Drive, Whitley Bay, donated plants to Tynemouth Blind Welfare Society at Pearey House.

A group from the store went along and helped to paint the raised gardens as well as planting sensory plants.

The garden was dedicated to the memory of Millicent Chambers, who was a regular customer at the store and who also attended Pearey House every week.

Sainsbury’s Community Grant Scheme was set up to help charitable groups in the local community and is partially funded by sales of the retailer’s ‘Bag for Life’.

Store manager Roger Thompson said: “For customers at Sainsbury’s Whitley Bay this means that they are not only making an environmental choice, they are also contributing to their local community.

“Our store is at the heart of the local community and it is important that we can play our part to support it.

“We are delighted to have supported this very good cause and we are sure that the garden will bring a great deal of enjoyment to all of the residents.”
