TWO youngsters are joining forces to raise funds for charity by taking part in a sponsored roller skating event.

Lauren Bell and Charlotte Davis will join the Skaters Club North East to raise money for Cancer Research.

Lauren came up with the idea of raising money and awareness of cancer following the death of her gran, Teresa Bell, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in September 2010.

Lauren asked Steve Thomas, who is the area head of the club, if she could take part in a sponsored roller skate, and he was more than happy to accommodate the idea.

Other youngsters have taken to the idea and have been happy to help, taking sponsorship forms.

And one of 11-year-old Lauren’s biggest supporters is seven-year-old Charlotte, who is also taking part.

Now more children and adults are being invited to join in, with events planned from Friday, April 26, and throughout May.

The sponsored roller skates will take place at The Lakes Leisure Centre in Killingworth and The Parks in North Shields.

Lauren is hoping to raise £500 for her chosen charity.

A 70-metre skate track will be marked out so people can set a target distance if they want, but those helping raise money can skate for as little or as long as they wish.
