WOULD-be robbers fled empty-handed from a chippy on Tuesday night after smashing several glass display cabinets.
The attempted robbery at Kler’s fish-and-chip shop in Orde Avenue, Wallsend, at about 11.50pm.
Two men carried out the failed raid on the shop.
One of them was armed with what is believed to have been a metal bar, and he used it to smash display cabinets while demanding cash.
No one was injured by the raiders, but staff were left shocked. The would-be robbers, both male, are described as being aged 18 to 20.
One was wearing a light-coloured hoody with fluorescent markings on the sleeves.
After fleeing empty-handed, the pair headed along Archer Street towards Holy Cross.
Police are appealing for witnesses and are carrying out house-to-house inquiries.
