TRADERS in Whitley Bay have declared a special Christmas market held at the weekend a success.
More than 2,100 people attended the first Christmas Fair at the Dome at the weekend.
Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade chairman Karen Goldfinch, said: “The aim of the fair was to highlight and promote the variety of businesses we’re lucky to have in Whitley Bay.
“Every exhibitor was from the town, and the aim was to remind people of what is available, how much of their Christmas shopping they can do here, where they can grab a coffee or meal, entertain the children, have a beauty treatment, see a show and more, and what a great array of friendly businesses are out there.
“I’ve already heard that some businesses have had people in to see them on Monday morning after the fayre to buy more goods – which is fantastic news.
“We’re so pleased so many people came out to see this event. It we great to see the community support, to see the queues on the sea front, and the thousands that came in was quite an achievement for our first fayre of this type.”
Elected Mayor for North Tyneside, Mrs Linda Arkley, opened the event and met with stallholders and shoppers.
She said: “This was a hugely successful event, because of the imagination, hard work and determination of its organisers. It was wonderful to see the Dome packed with visitors and shoppers, all enjoying its restored glory whilst supporting our local businesses.
“Innovative events like this give our local economy a fantastic boost, and I’m delighted that so many people attended, and made it such a huge success.”
