A devoted specs wearer from North Shields is a step closer to being crowned Spectacle Wearer of the Year and winning a two-week luxury holiday in St Lucia.

Christopher Baddoo was chosen from more than 6,000 entries from across the UK and Ireland to represent the 25 to 39-year-old category at the star-studded Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.

The 26-year-old will battle it out for the ultimate accolade in specs wearing against three other age categories – 15 to 24, 40 to 59, and 60plus – plus a finalist representing Ireland and a Facebook favourite.

The awards will be held this week at London’s world famous Royal Opera House and hosted by Specsavers style ambassador Gok Wan.

Speaking ahead of the awards night, Christopher said: “I’m thrilled to have made it through to the final of the competition; I never thought I would make it this far.

“Hopefully I have the specs appeal to win.”

The awards were launched by Spice Girl Melanie C earlier this year, who Christopher will meet at the awards ceremony among other specs-wearing stars.

Christopher and the other age category winners will each receive a VIP makeover from celebrity hairdresser James Brown.

Runner-up prizes include weekend trips to Paris and London with spending money.
