A free trip to the cinema for 150 older people took place to raise awareness of loneliness.
The event was organised by Bluebird Care North Tyneside as part of a ‘Silver Sunday’ initiative.
Bluebird managing director Julie McLellan said: “We were keen to get involved with Silver Sunday because we provide care to a lot of people over 65 in our community.
“We understand that sometimes our care workers are the only people they see all day and they can get quite lonely.
“We decided to hold this event to help raise combat loneliness amongst older people and to give them the opportunity to get out of the house, do something different and meet new people and raise some money for our chosen charity Parkinsons UK.
“We would like to thank the Odeon for their hospitality and Boots Silverlink for attending the event with free gifts for the guests.”
The day raised £145 for Parkinsons UK.
