PANCAKE lovers were out to batter the opposition as Meadow Well Residents’ Association in North Shields celebrated Shrove Tuesday.

A pancake-tossing competition and pancake races were held at The Avenue community centre in Avon Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cedarwood Trust, the Avenue and the Phoenix Detached Youth Project were also involved in organising the event.

More than 20 people, aged from four up to 65, took part.

“It went really well. Everyone seemed to have a great time, especially the kids,” said association secretary Jean Kimber.
