An annual concert which paid tribute to a Whitley Bay man helped raise thousands of pounds for charity.

The 33rd Annual Carol Concert for CLIC Sargent, which took place at Newcastle’s City Hall, saw more than 1,000 people attend and £3,418.62 raised for the charity.

Among the choirs taking part were Newcastle Combined Hospitals Choir, New Tyneside Orchestra and Senior Choir of Kings Priory Academy plus The Northern Doctors Chorus and The Choir of Highfield Middle School in Prudhoe.

This year’s event was in tribute to the late Stephen Pettitt, who died last year. Stephen, from Whitley Bay, was the main organiser and conductor of the event for 32 years, helping raise more than £200,000 for CLIC Sargent.

CLIC Sargent fundraising manager Dee Tyler said: “I think it’s an incredible achievement for the committee that the event even went ahead given Stephen’s sudden and unexpected passing. They worked so hard to pull it all together and it really paid off.”

“It was a truly fitting tribute to a wonderful man.

“I want to thank everyone for their time and effort especially Eunice Cockburn, Mavis Harris and Malcolm Moffat.”

This year’s event will be at a new venue so please keep a look out to in the local press and on CLIC Sargent’s website to see where and when the concert will be in 2016.
