Council needs to show us options

Coun John O’Shea has asked us residents to tell him what we think of the proposal to fill in the Central Promenade and make it into a grassy bank.

Well, my view is that that is the most dull and boring proposal imaginable! It’s also a missed opportunity to make the Whitley Bay seafront an attractive and interesting place which residents are proud of and visitors will want to come to.

I understand that the Council considered a number of different options.

Why can’t they show us what those options are – with the costs – and let us decide which we prefer?

We probably won’t agree but our views should be the starting point for a decision-making process about the future of our seafront, not a last-minute and probably ignored contribution.

After all, we are the ones who will have to live with the decision.
