A borough couple have been celebrating a special milestone with a holiday company.

Phyllis and William Whenray, from Whitley Bay, were special guests at Hassness Country House Hotel in the Lake District.

The couple were given the star treatment in honour of their 50th holiday with Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, who operate a number of guided walking adventures around the world.

Nestling on the shores of Buttermere in the Lake District, staff at the hotel made Phyllis and William feel extra special as they presented them with flowers, wine and chocolates.

And there was double reason to celebrate for hotel staff as they clocked up their own ‘milestone’ with the holiday company.

The hotel has commemorated its 60-year ‘relationship’ with Ramblers Worldwide Holidays.
