A MASKED man threatened a security guard at Asda Benton with a hammer on Friday afternoon before running off with a quantity of cash.
The incident happened at 2.29pm after the raider approached the guard of a security van and demanded money.
He is described as 5ft 11in tall and of a stocky build. A second man may also have been involved.
Police officers and dogs were called to the scene and the force helicopter was in the area following the incident, which took place on one of the supermarket’s busiest days of the year.
Police are appealing for anyone with any information, or anyone who may have witnessed the incident, to contact them on 101.
