NORTH Shields Football Club have been reunited with a treasured soccer shirt stolen almost a year ago.

The framed Newcastle United shirt, signed by Magpies legends Alan Shearer and Malcolm Macdonald, was taken during a break-in at the Robins’ clubhouse in Silkey’s Lane last July.

Police officers acting on a tip-off have now recovered the black-and-white shirt, valued at £8,000, and, happily for the club, it is still in good condition.

Inspector Geoff Cross, of the North Shields neighbourhood policing team, said: “We’re very pleased to reunite the owner with this valuable signed shirt. It’s certainly good news for North Shields Football Club.

“We want to reassure the public that we continue to make inquiries and investigate incidents even when they happened months before.

“If you have information about outstanding crimes, contact your local neighbourhood policing team on 03456 043043 ext 69191.”

A 16-year-old boy questioned by police admitted theft by finding and is being dealt with by the borough’s youth offending team.

Shearer was centre forward for the Magpies from 1996 until 2006, scoring 206 goals, and Macdonald filled the same role between 1971 and 1976, scoring 138 times.
