AN EYEWITNESS has told how she saw a man being shot in the car park of a North Tyneside pub early Friday evening.
Police received reports around 5pm that a man in the car park of the Wheatsheaf Pub in Benton had suffered gun shot wounds.
The 25-year-old eyewitness, who was left shaken after the incident, said: “I was driving home from the Silverlink and I saw somebody shooting at something on the floor that had a bright red jacket over it.
“I was shocked and thought to myself it couldn’t have been someone shooting at a person, maybe a fox or something, but then when I got home, had it confirmed.”
A man hunt is now under way to find those involved in the incident.
Great Lime Road in Palmersville was currently cordoned off immediately after the emergency services arrived.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 5.07pm on Friday, December 14, we received a report of a man with injuries in Whitley Road in Benton.
“Police and ambulance staff attended and a man in his 40s was taken to hospital suffering injuries consistent with gun shot wounds.
“Early indications are that there may have been a disturbance in the car park area of the Wheatsheaf Pub in Whitley Road just before the call was made to police.”
The victim was taken to hospital and was said to be in a stable condition.
