Two suspected firearms were found in Wallsend last night when police swooped on an address in the town and arrested five people.
Police carried out the successful operation, which resulted in three men and two women being arrested on suspcion of conspiracy to commit robbery, on Tuesday evening.
No robbery offences had actually take place.
All five, men aged 24, 23 and 20, and women aged 22 and 19, are currently in custody helping with enquiries in relation to a potential robbery.
No-one was injured during the operation and there was no risk to the wider community, although residents may have seen or heard a lot of police activity in the Churchill Street area at the time.
Neighbourhood officers are currently in the area to reassure the community and area available to speak to residents.
