ARMED with baseball bats and wearing masks, two intruders broke into a North Shields home in the early hours of Tuesday morning and assaulted the occupants.
The incident happened at an address in Weyhill Avenue at 1am on Tuesday March 20 when intruders forced their way into the property and caused damage inside.
They assaulted a man and woman inside the house causing cuts and bruises, before stealing mobile phones and an undisclosed quantity of cash. The offenders then left via the back door.
Police were called and the two occupants were taken to North Tyneside Hospital where they received treatment and were released.
The two offenders are both described as six feet tall, medium build.
Officers are carrying out house to house enquiries in the area and neighbourhood officers are on patrol and are speaking to residents to reassure them.
Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
