Purse snatched from home after door left unlocked

A BURGLAR took advantage of an unlocked door to steal a purse from a house in Whitley Bay on Saturday night.

The thief struck in Stanley Crescent at 11.15pm and was seen running off towards Whitley Bay Metro station.

He is said to have been wearing a beige top.

Detective Inspector Neil Brotherton, of the police’s North Tyneside area command, said: “We are asking for help from the public to identify the person responsible for this crime.

“We also want to remind householders to make sure they keep their doors locked securely at all times.

“Unfortunately sneak-in thieves do try door handles of homes to see if they have been left unlocked.

“It only takes a few seconds for a burglar to sneak into your home and pick up any valuables they can.

“Don’t make it easy for thieves to strike. If you do see someone acting suspiciously in your neighbourhood, call the police straight away.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 ext 69191.
