A SCHOOLGIRL has been arrested for wasting police time after she made “unfounded” allegations that she had been assaulted an robbed.
The 14-year-old told police that she had been approached by three girls who assaulted her and stole her mobile phone, as she walked her dog across Whitley Bay High School field last Tuesday evening, as reported in last week’s News Guardian.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Police are no longer investigating the assault and robbery on a school girl on Tuesday, July 26, in Whitley Bay after the allegation was discovered to be unfounded following a police investigation.
“A 14-year-old girl has been arrested for wasting police time and bailed. She will be dealt with by the youth offending team.”
