Thief snatches purse from back of buggy

A PURSE was stolen from the back of a pushchair in a North Shields restaurant last Thursday.

The theft happened while the purse’s owner, a 21-year-old, was in McDonald’s in Bedford Street between 10.30am and 10.45am.

Inspector Geoff Cross said: “We want to remind people to keep their valuables with them at all times.

“Don’t leave handbags on the backs of buggies or shopping trolleys when opportunist thieves can strike and help themselves to your cash.

“If you do see someone acting suspiciously, please contact police straight away.”

Police are patrolling shopping centres as part of a force-wide initiative in the run-up to Christmas.

Witnesses are asked to call police on 101 ext 69191.
