Motorists in North Tynside are being advised to remove valuables from their cars after a number of thefts.
Between Saturday, April 20, and Monday, April 22, thieves broke into a works van parked in Prospect Avenue North, Wallsend.
They stole tools and equipment worth hundreds of pounds, including a Javac vacuum pump, a Fluke electrical tester and a Refco refrigeration gauge.
Then sometime between 11:45pm Sunday, April 21, and 7:30am Monday, April 22, thieves smashed the window of a Ford Transit parked in Kielder Road, Wellfield, and stole two Garmin sat nav systems from inside.
North Tyneside Chief Inspector Mandy Shea said: “In both of these incidents the victims had their vehicles locked and the thieves broke into the vans either by smashing the door locks or the windows.
“Motorists need to make sure that they remove all valuables from their cars or vans when they park them overnight.
“Some thieves look for easy opportunities such as unlocked car doors while others are obviously targeting any vehicles where valuables have been left inside. Help us to stop this type of crime by removing your property whenever you leave your vehicle.”
Anyone with any information into the thefts are asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191.
