Woman sexually assaulted in North Shields

A WOMAN was sexually assaulted as she walked her dog in North Shields early on Sunday morning (August 7).

The 28-year-old was walking in Waterville Road at 12.30am when she was approached from behind by two men.

The men, who were both wearing dark clothing, pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her before leaving the scene.

Acting Detective Inspector Dave Watson said: “The woman is very upset by the assault and is receiving help from officers investigating the attack.

“Police have stepped up uniform patrols in the area as a precautionary measure, but we do want to emphasise that we are treating this an isolated incident.

“Detectives are following up several lines of enquiry including checking CCTV, carrying out forensic investigation and are making house to house enquiries.

“Police are working closely with the community and are still appealing for information about this incident and for any witnesses to come forward.”
