Witnesses are being sought after a cyclist was injured in a hit and run.

A 37-year-old man fell from his bike after being hit by a black Nissan Navara in Norham Road, North Shields, at around 4pm on Monday, September 7.

The driver then left the scene without stopping.

The cyclist was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries and is currently described as being in a stable condition.

The road was closed from the Coast Road towards New York for around four hours before being reopened at 8.30pm.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating this as a deliberate collision and a 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and currently remains in custody.”

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident.
