Young love took centre stage recently when a proposal of marriage took place to mark a fairytale ending of a pantomime production.
Andy Chambers, who as starring as the Dame in Little Red Riding Hoody, got down on one knee and proposed to girlfriend Leanne Gilks, who was also a star of the show and chairperson of the St Peter’s Pantomime Society.
In front of a packed audience, including family and friends, Andy declared his love for his partner, and bride to be Leanne quickly said ‘yes’ before the ring was put on her finger.
Leanne, 24, said: “It was amazing, and completely unexpected.
“The Pantomime Society is one of my great passions in life, I have been there since I was 12 years old, and he knows how much it means to me, so for him to pick that as the place to propose to me was amazing, there would have been nowhere better.”
Only three people were in the know about what Andy had planned, and when the final curtain was draw on the show, there were screams of delight from the audience and cast members as it became apparent what was happening, while Leanne burst in to tears.
The pair, both students who live in Shiremoor, are now planning a wedding for late 2015.
