The young at heart came together for a special dance to remember the golden times at the Spanish City Dome.

A nostalgic afternoon tea dance took place at the Age Concern building in Whitley Bay to recreate memories of the iconic Dome.

The event was part of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) project to restore the Dome and capture memories of its glory days.

Couples were waltzing and fox-trotting around the floor as they re-lived the dances held decades ago in the Dome’s ornate ballroom.

Their memories were gathered by young people from North Tyneside’s Youth Council and the entire event was filmed.

Mayor Norma Redfearn said: “People have so many lovely memories of the Spanish City because back in its hey day it was the place to be.

“It was a truly magical place that was special to many people.”
