Health chiefs are celebrating after their trust was named one of the best in the country.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was named as one of the nine ‘elite’ NHS organisations by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
It means the trust can be drafted in to help prevent failures at other NHS hospitals, already being partnered with North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust to help deliver improvements.
Under the new arrangements announced by the government, Northumbria Healthcare will be reimbursed for its time and expertise and have access to a special incentive fund which means the trust could be paid extra for delivering results in North Cumbria.
Dave Evans, medical director at the trust, said: “We have been working very closely with North Cumbria as part of our ongoing acquisition process and are very pleased to be announced as the trust’s official partner organisation.
“Our primary focus is on working with our colleagues in North Cumbria to drive the required improvements to the quality of care being delivered and ensuring services are safe for patients, something which we will not compromise on at Northumbria Healthcare.”
