VISITORS to Tynemouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium will be able to discover the secrets of the underwater world this weekend.
A special Divers Weekend, organised in association with Newcastle-based Aquanorth Diving Centre, is being held on Saturday, November 17, and the following day.
The event aims to provide an introduction to diving and the rich variety of North Sea marine habitats.
Local diving school staff will give their experiences of diving in the north east, as well as bringing in various pieces of scuba equipment for visitors to look at, and give demonstration dives in the Seal Cove display.
Blue Reef’s Anna Pellegrino said a number of the aquarium’s aquarists are also keen scuba divers and she hopes the event will both raise awareness of the rich marine habitat on our doorstep and encourage more people to get involved in diving.
“Our diving demonstrations always prove incredibly popular with visitors and we’re looking forward to welcoming a whole new generation of potential new diving recruits over the weekend.
“The chance to watch the divers in Seal Cove via the giant underwater viewing windows should be a real crowd puller.”
