A doctor from North Tyneside is lending his expertise to millions of patients as he takes on a new role.

Dr Simon Eaton, who is a consultant physician and diabetologist at North Tyneside General Hospital, has joined the advisory board of online forum diabetes.co.uk

The site, which has more than 180,000 members and receives 2.4 million visitors a month, has set up the panel of ten experts to help bridge the gap between people with diabetes and clinicians.

Each board member has been selected for their significant contribution to diabetes care.

Dr Eaton, who is also the national clinical lead for Year of Care Partnerships, has a long-standing interest in finding new approaches to help patients with long-term conditions to be more involved in their healthcare.

He said: “My role is about involving people in their care and care planning, particularly using digital solutions to ensure individualised and compassionate care.

“I am looking forward to further enhancing the role of diabetes.co.uk as Europe’s largest diabetes forum in supporting people to help manage their condition.”

Chief operating officer of the forum Charlotte Summers said: “Each panel member is outstanding in their field. We’re so excited to explore how digital health can affect real world health.”
