Family and friends came together to raise a glass for ‘special’ great grandmother celebrate her 100th birthday.
Dozens turned up at the Monkseaton Arms last Friday to help Doris Gastrell mark her milestone, being presented with cards, flowers and presents on the day.
Doris has travelled all around the world and still continues to travel to catch up with friends, recently getting her passport renewed.
And she plans on travelling more with further trips abroad in the pipeline.
Speaking about her milestone, Doris said the success of reaching 100 years was “having at least ten cups of coffee with two sugars in a day”.
Doris has two great grandchildren, one aged 18 and the other who turns two in May.
Her granddaugher Lianne Patterson said: “She has travelled all her life and has been around the world a number of times.”
